FAQs
What issues can I bring to therapy?
You can bring any challenge that feels overwhelming or difficult to manage. Many clients seek support for anxiety, depression, burnout, trauma, grief, life transitions, maternal mental health, ADHD, and cultural or identity-related challenges. Therapy is a safe space to explore these experiences and develop strategies for balance and resilience.
Can I bring my partner or family to counselling sessions?
Yes! Depending on your needs, some sessions benefit from having a partner, spouse, or family member present to explore shared concerns and improve communication. If you’re considering this, we can discuss the best approach for your situation to ensure everyone feels comfortable and supported.
What can I expect in my first session?
Your first session is an opportunity to share your goals, discuss what brought you to therapy, and explore how therapy can support you. Together with your therapist, you’ll decide on a plan that fits your needs and comfort level.
What if I don’t feel comfortable with my therapist?
It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about a new counsellor. Finding the right therapist is essential for effective counselling. If you don’t feel comfortable after your first session, we can discuss alternative approaches or referrals. Your comfort and trust are a top priority, and we want to ensure you feel supported every step of the way.
How long are sessions and how do they work?
Sessions typically last 50 minutes. In virtual therapy, we meet via a secure video platform. During sessions, we talk through challenges, learn coping strategies, and develop practical tools tailored to your needs.
Is virtual therapy effective?
Yes. Many clients find that virtual sessions provide the same sense of connection and support as in-person therapy, with the added convenience of attending from home. Our therapists are experienced in creating a safe, private, and engaging online environment.
How private and confidential is therapy?
All sessions follow professional and provincial privacy standards. Conversations with your therapist are confidential, and your information is stored securely. Your privacy is respected and protected, with a few legal and ethical exceptions which will be explained during your first session.
What if I need support between sessions or in a crisis?
If you ever feel unsafe or in immediate crisis, please reach out to a trusted crisis line (see our Crisis & Support Resources) or call local emergency services. Your therapist can also provide guidance on coping strategies between sessions, but crisis resources should be your first point of contact in urgent situations.
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy is helpful for anyone looking to understand themselves better, manage stress, or navigate life changes. Even if you’re unsure, a first consultation can help you explore whether it feels like a good fit.
What are the fees and payment options?
Our therapy sessions range from $110 to $205, depending on the type of session—individual or couples—and the therapist you choose.
We accept major credit/debit cards and electronic payments. While we don’t bill insurance directly, most clients are able to submit their receipts for reimbursement, and we’re happy to provide any paperwork you need to make it easy.
How do I know if my insurance or benefits cover counselling?
Many people wonder whether their insurance or employee benefits cover counselling sessions. Coverage varies by plan, so it’s important to check your policy or contact your provider. We’re happy to provide official receipts or documentation for insurance claims.
How often will I need to attend sessions?
Frequency depends on your needs and goals. Many clients start weekly, then adjust to biweekly or as needed over time.
